Adoption Center
Thank you for considering adoption. The Lowell Humane Society takes in approximately
3,000 animals annually. The goal of our adoption program is to match the homeless animals
in our care with the appropriate forever home.  Likewise, we are here to help you find the
right pet for your needs.  To assist us in the matchmaking process, we have developed
guidelines and a simple adoption process for prospective adopters. Please understand that
this process is not intended to frustrate anyone but to prepare adopters for the life long
commitment to their pet.
Please click here for more information about the adoption process.
Tobby's Fund Established

The Lowell Humane Society is proud to announce a new fund to help care for the medical needs of
some of the animals surrendered to the shelter. In July of 2008, Tobby's Fund was created to help
provide much needed medical care to some of the animals brought to the shelter in need of
immediate veterinary or medical care.
For more information on Tobby's Fund, the animals that it
has helped and how you can help animals like Tobby, please click here.
Volunteer
There are a variety of ways you can volunteer your time to help the animals at The Lowell
Humane Society. We utilizes the help of volunteers seven (7) days a week.
  • Shelter Volunteers help with the daily chores of the shelter including walking dogs,
socializing cats, feeding, cleaning and a variety of other tasks.
  • Office Volunteers help with paperwork, filing and marketing. They also help to make
fun fliers to help some of our long term residents find homes or help to keep all animals
    displayed and updated on Petfinder.
  • Special Events Volunteers help to organize and coordinate off-site and special
events like photo days, dog washes and our walk "Steps for Pets".
  • Foster Volunteers provide a safe place for kittens to grow and adults to heal.  Some
animals may need a temporary foster home for a few months, while others may only
    need a few weeks.
  • Kids 4 Paws Volunteers meet the 3rd Sunday of each month. A professional from the
animal care field joins them to teach ways that they can help. Each program runs
approximately 1.5 hours and is FREE. Scout groups are welcome.
  • Teens helping Pets meet twice a month. They are animal ambassadors who are
making a difference. Along with the Community Outreach Coordinator, they organize
their own fundraisers and brainstorm creative ideas on how to help

If you are interested in finding out more about our new and expanding volunteer program visit
the shelter anytime during our open hours and pick up a volunteer application. You can also
contact the volunteer coordinator at chris@lowellhumanesociety.org or call the shelter at
978-452-7781 with questions about fostering or our Kid s 4 Paws and Teen programs.

In the Spotlight: Merle   Check out his very own page!
Merle is a 10 year old neutered male. He came to the shelter after he was
abandoned and left alone in an apartment. He is very affectionate but is looking
for an owner who is willing to care for him during his elderly years. Merle would do
great with cats, dogs and kids and loves to snuggle and head-butt!

Merle is also in need of a dental including several extractions. If you would like to
help Merle receive this necessary veterinary care, please consider making a
donation to
Tobby's Fund and click here.

Help Adult Cats Find New Homes by Supporting the Dorothy Fund

The Dorothy Fund is a program at the Lowell Humane Society that offers incentives to help adult
cats find new, loving homes. You can show your support by donating towards the fund or, if you
are looking to adopt, taking a closer look at the wonderful qualities an adult cat can offer.

For families, the Dorothy Fund will pay $80 towards the adoption of two cats over the age of three.
It will also pay half of the adoption fee of any cat over the age of three for any senior citizen.
