Bequests and Legacy Gifts

Making a planned gift to the Lowell Humane Society is a meaningful way to carry forward your compassion and concern for animals. In addition, this type of giving may help you achieve specific financial goals, such as reducing or eliminating tax liability.

Bequests
One of the simplest ways to leave a charitable legacy to the Lowell Humane Society is through a provision in your will. Your will provides the flexibility of specifying exactly how you wish to provide for the animals in our care.

Bequests made through your will may take various forms

  • Specific Bequest – directs a specific dollar gift or property to be passed to the Lowell Humane Society. “I leave the sum of __ (dollars) to the Lowell Humane Society (Humane Society – Lowell), tax ID 04-2104400.”
  • Percentage Bequest – designates a percentage of the total value of the estate as a gift to the Lowell Humane Society. “I leave the sum of __ (percentage) to the Lowell Humane Society (Humane Society – Lowell), tax ID 04-2104400.”
  • Residual Bequest – directs that the Lowell Humane Society receive the remainder of the estate, or a portion of the remainder, after all expenses and other bequests have been made.  “I give __ (dollars or percent) to __ if he/she is living, otherwise to the Lowell Humane Society (Humane Society – Lowell), tax ID 04-2104400.”   Or  “I leave __ percent of all the rest, residue and remainder of my estate to the Lowell Humane Society (Humane Society – Lowell), tax ID 04-2104400.”
