Meet Shirley

All about Shirley

Shirley is a 3 months old female Rex rabbit who weighs 4 pounds and has been with us for 56 days.

Hello hello from Shirley! She is a Rex mix bunny estimated at about 2 months old. Shirley and her sister Laverne are looking for a home that will take them in as foster to adopt while they wait to be spayed, and then can become all yours afterwards! Shirley is very hand friendly, she enjoys being pat and tolerates being held and carried. Bunnies do not generally appreciate being picked up for long periods of time, but Shirley is a good sport and will sit still for a moment. The two girls look extremely similar, but Shirley has a slightly fluffier coat & fuller head than Laverne does.

Rabbits have a vegan diet that consists mainly of high quality Timothy Hay, supplemented with 1/4 cup of hay-based pellets per day. Rabbits can eat fresh veggies, with the amount adjusted to suit your bunny's individual needs, but about a handful a day is a good starting point. They can eat romaine, green & red leaf lettuce, and dandelion greens, among others.

Rabbits need at least 4ftx4ft of open space to roam around in, with room for their food, water, litterbox, enrichment, and a spot to hide. They should be kept on a solid surface and not wire, as this can hurt their feet, with some soft bedding. Rabbits are social creatures and unless otherwise stated, should be kept with another rabbit friend.

Our shelter is open every day except Monday from 12-4. If you are interested in this pet, please call us at 978-452-7781, email info@lowellhumanesociety.org, or stop by the shelter to request an adoption application.
