SCRUNGLE KITTY! We introduced you to Scrungle in the Animal Talk Newsletter- here are a few videos of this handsome guy!
Check out this video we promised of foster Scrungle Kitty who is taking time re-learning to be a house cat after spending many years abandoned on the streets of Lowell. Socializing an adult cat who has been outdoors for an extended period takes lots of time and lots of PATIENCE. This handsome dude has only recently started interacting with his fosters, Erika and Mike.
Food and play are two ways to help scared/shy pets out of their shells and expand their comfort zone. Here is Scrungle showing his kitten side! He enjoys batting at that wand toy before having a snack and taking a nap in a window seat.
VOLUME UP! Scrungle provides some kitty ASMR crunching his treats. Erika drops a treat and uses that distraction moment to sneak a few gentle finger strokes on his head. He’ll begin to associate the positive of the treat, with the petting and soon will learn to enjoy the petting as well. He’ll stay in foster for a while- if you are interested in taking on this handsome boy as your own- we’ll also walk you through socializing him (or another cat with socialization needs) and support you as needed to help him become comfortable in a new home!
Think you have the patience and a little time to put into helping a cat like him? Click on “Get Involved” in the bar at the top of the page and look for foster program details.
Mr. Mango Happy Tail!
Hello to everyone at the Lowell Humane Society!
I am writing to give you an update on The Artist Formerly Known As Sphinx, who has been going by the name Mr. Mango since coming home (full name: Mr. Sphinx Mango-Sears). He is a wonderful friend, and we love having him here at our house. We’ve been working on his social skills, and he is getting pretty good at sitting on laps and accepting head pats and ear scritches, He’s also perhaps the smartest guinea pig we’ve ever had — he learned right away that if I open the door to his cage, he can walk out of it like it’s a ramp! That has made his daily floor-time a lot easier since he gets to choose when he wants to come out and when he’s ready to stop. I’ve set up extra gates around his cage so he can do this without getting out of the room, so he gets a larger space to do his daily zoomies. His favorite vegetables are carrots, cucumber, bell pepper, and romaine lettuce. He always lets us know when it’s breakfast and dinner time, because he’s a very good squeaker!
Mr. Mango is a very handsome, energetic, and healthy boy, and I’ve attached some pictures of him in his new home. We’re very grateful to the Lowell Humane Society for rescuing him and letting us be his family!
Sincerely,
Caroline, Mary, and Bill
