This week’s ED featured Pet of the week:
WELCOME!
Welcome is cute, petite and a real conflicted individual. Like many of us, she has anxiety that makes the world feel like a little too much sometimes. For that- she is on 2 daily medications.
Welcome lives in our break room while she awaits her new home. Every single day, she greets staff by winding through their legs and rubbing against them. She flops on her side and requests you pet her tummy (just once or twie though, dont get cocky). Did our relationship start this way? Nope. We had to earn her love. She was a bit grumpy and anxious. We spent time getting to know her, our vet prescribed some medications and we learned what Welcome likes and, more imporantly, what she doesn’t like. (Such as other cats- she has let us know loud and clear that she would prefer to be the one and only feline queen in the home).
Welcome needs patience and understanding. She needs to start life in a small space, like a bathroom, where she can’t hide away. Or we can lend you a large dog crate while you earn each others love and build your relationship. Transistions are hard for her, but we promise with time, patience (and her trusty prescription) she’ll start giving you her belly for 1-2 pets a day too!
